The Carsmith Motors’ Consignment Program is designed to give our customers an alternative to the traditional dealership trade-in.

Kelly Blue Book and Edmunds Trade-in valuations are, by definition, low.  Trade-in is the estimated value at which a “dealership can afford to assume the risk of selling a particular car”.  Trade-in value takes into consideration the fact that a dealership will have to INVEST MONEY AND TIME into a car in order to resell it.  The dealership assumes 100% of the risk that the car won’t sell, or won’t sell quickly and may ultimately lose money over time.  In exchange for that risk, the dealership receives 100% of the profit if/when the vehicle does sell.

Carsmith’s Consignment Program helps customers get more money for their car than its trade-in value while sharing the risk…and the reward between both parties.



Your Carsmith Representative works with you to inspect your car, determine its trade-in value, and identify any work or reconditioning that could be done to help sell the car and/or produce a POSITIVE RETURN ON INVESTMENT.  Together we determine an advertised price (and a minimum acceptable sale price) for the vehicle.  Because the two parties agree to split the profit (defined as anything over the car’s original trade-in value) 50/50, you can rest assured that the entire Carsmith Team will do everything possible to get top dollar for your car…because we have skin in the game with you!



Carsmith collects a $600 consignment fee up front to cover the cost of a full mechanical & safety inspection*, complete detail and 30+ photographs (inside and out), and subsequent advertising (including: Autotrader,, Craigslist, TRUECar, CarGurus,, and many more).  From this point on, your Carsmith Representative acts as the Project Manager for your vehicle; making sure the car is reconditioned, prepped and advertised thoroughly.  The Carsmith Team is available to show your car 7-days a week so you don’t have to cancel your weekend plans or invite strangers to your home.  We keep you posted regarding customer feedback and provide recommendations every step of the way.

Ultimately when the car sells we split the profit 50/50--sending you a reconciliation of expenses along with your portion of the proceeds.
