Kelly Blue Book and Edmunds Trade-in valuations are, by definition, low. Trade-in is the estimated value at which a dealership can afford to assume the risk of selling a particular car. Trade-in value takes into consideration the fact that a dealership will have to invest money and time into a car in order to resell it. The dealership assumes 100% of the risk that the car won’t sell, or won’t sell quickly and may ultimately lose money over time in exchange, the dealership receives 100% of the profit if/when the vehicle does sell.
Carsmith’s Consignment Program helps customers get more money for their car than its trade-in value while sharing the risk…and the reward between both parties.
HOW IT WORKS:
Your Carsmith Representative works with you to inspect your car, determine its trade-in value, and identify any work or reconditioning that could be done to help sell the car and/or produce a positive ROI. Together we determine an advertised price (and a minimum acceptable sale price) for the vehicle. Because the two parties agree to split the profit (defined as anything over the car’s original trade-in value) 50/50, you can rest assured that we will do everything we can to get top dollar for your car"as we have skin in the game!”
WHAT HAPPENS NEXT:
Carsmith collects a $500 consignment fee up front to cover the cost of a full mechanical & safety inspection*, complete detail (inside and out) and subsequent advertising (including: Autotrader, Cars.com, Craigslist, Carsforsale.com, and many more). From this point on, your Carsmith Representative acts as the Project Manager for your vehicle; making sure the car is reconditioned, prepped and advertised thoroughly. The Carsmith Team is available to show your car 7-days a week so you don’t have to cancel your weekend plans or invite strangers to your home. We keep you posted regarding customer feedback and provide recommendations every step of the way.
Ultimately when the car sells we split the profit 50/50--sending you a reconciliation of expenses along with your portion of the proceeds.
It sounds simple because it is simple…ask you Carsmith Representative for more details or fill out our Consignment Request Form and we’ll get back to you with some estimated pricing and next steps.
* Carsmith’s $500 consignment fee covers the cost of the initial safety and mechanical inspection of your vehicle. Any issues or repairs recommended by the mechanic will be discussed with seller prior to approval. The costs of those repairs are subsequently reconciled against the proceeds from the vehicles sale. Similarly, any significant reconditioning work (bumper repair, curb rash on wheels, door dings/dents, etc.) will also be discussed with the seller, approved in advance and ultimately reconciled once the car sells.
