| Carsmith Motors Consignment Program
The Carsmith Motors Consignment Program was designed to give our customers an alternative to the traditional dealership trade-in.
Kelly Blue Book and Edmunds Trade-in valuations are, by definition, low. Trade-in is the value at which a dealership is willing to take a car off the customer’s hands, knowing that they will have to put money and work into the car in order to resell it. The dealership assumes 100% of the risk that the car won’t sell, or won’t sell quickly and will ultimately cost them money over time—they also assume 100% of the profit when it does sell.
Carsmith’s Consignment Program helps customers get more money for their car than its trade-in value while sharing the risk…and the reward between both parties.
HOW IT WORKS: Your Carsmith Representative works with you to inspect your car, determine its trade-in value, and identify any work or reconditioning that could be done to help sell the car and/or produce a positive ROI. Together we determine an advertised price (and a minimum acceptable sale price) for the vehicle. Because the two parties agree to split the profit (defined as anything over the car’s original trade-in value) 50/50, you can rest assured that we will do everything we can to get top dollar for your car—we have skin in the game.
WHAT HAPPENS NEXT: Carsmith collects a $250 deposit up front to cover repairs, detailing, advertising and administrative costs. From this point on, your Carsmith representative acts as the Project Manager for your vehicle; making sure the car is reconditioned, prepped and advertised.* We are available to show your car 7-days a week so you don’t have to cancel your weekend plans or invite strangers to your house. We keep you posted regarding customer feedback and provide recommendations every step of the way.
Ultimately when the car sells we split the profit 50/50--sending you a reconciliation of expenses along with your portion of the proceeds.
It sounds simple because it is simple…ask you Carsmith Representative for more details or fill out our Consignment Request Form and we’ll get back to you with some estimated pricing and next steps.
For our clients who are carrying negative equity in their current vehicle or for those who need to liquidate their current car as part of their new car acquisition, Carsmith does offer a trade-in option. Ask your Carsmith Representative for details.
* The customer must maintain valid registration for the vehicle throughout the consignment process, but because the car is under Carsmith’s “care, custody and control” it is covered by our Garage Keeper policy so you may cancel your insurance when at the time you hand over the car.
